We’re on Week 3 of the Sewing Machine Love Sew Along with Fat Quarter Shop, and this week is all about the patchwork! After sewing up our big sewing machine blocks last week, we’re adding the sweetest little quilt to go with them. A quilt with its own quilt? Of course I love it!

This is a super easy section to sew together, but it’s so fun to see all those colorful prints side by side. Sometimes simple patchwork is just the thing to let the fabrics show off, and these sweet squares are doing exactly that!

A Little Patchwork, Lots of Pretty Prints
I’m sewing along with Cotton Nook by Minki Kim, and I had a blast choosing the prints for this section. Between the tiny florals, gingham, polka dots, and darling little apples, there were so many cute combinations to play with. The pinks, greens, blues, and sunny yellows look so sweet together, with those pops of orange adding a little extra cheer.
Choosing where everything would go might have taken me longer than the actual sewing. Please tell me I’m not the only one who rearranges squares and then moves them right back again. Haha!

I love how this patchwork brings even more of the collection into the quilt. It’s such a pretty companion to my floral sewing machine, and I can’t wait to see everything together!
Next Up: The Finished Quilt!
Next week we get to show off our finished quilts! It has been so fun watching this project come together, from the spool and hearts to the sewing machine and now our colorful patchwork.

You can find the Sewing Machine Love pattern at Fat Quarter Shop and the sew along information on the Fat Quarter Shop blog.
Are you sewing along too? I’d love to hear what fabrics you’re using!
